From Ford to Renault for Robertson

Ford Fiesta racer Scott Robertson is to make the move to the Renault UK Clio Cup with team JamSport Racing.

JamSport Racing have added rising star Scott Robertson to their Renault UK Clio Cup line up. The Scot will join Tom Grundy and Ant Whorton-Eales in his debut Clio Cup season.

Scott is the third Robertson to take on the motor racing world, with his father and grandfather both making careers in the sport. In 2015, he became the third generation of the same family to win a race at Donington Park.

Over the past five years, Robertson has been racing in Ford Fiestas and, last year, came runner up in the national championship whilst racing with JamSport’s Fiesta.

This year he will take a seat in a team that already has a great chance of taking the title, with Grundy ending last season a front-runner and Whorton-Eales also a title protagonist.

“I’ve seen the UK Clio Cup in action and really want a piece of it,” said Robertson. “A number of drivers I’ve raced against have made the step up to it and now it’s my time to make that step. I would like to have a shot at racing in the BTCC one day and this championship is very definitely the place to make that happen.

“I’ve raced with JamSport in Fiestas and have seen just how determined they are and having Ant and Tom as benchmarks is going to help me no end.”

“We’ve seen some terrific form from Scott in our Fiesta and very definitely feel now that the time is right for him to graduate to the UK Clio Cup,” said team principal Jamie Going. He is a real talent and, with Ant and Tom also in our team, we are all hopeful of having three cars fighting for wins and podium results.”
