Fresh from winning the Ginetta Junior Scholarship, Daniel Harper will has joined Douglas Motorsport for the 2016 Ginetta Junior championship.
The fifteen year old impressed during the scholarship competition last October, and beat 59 other drivers to win a fully funded season in the Ginetta Junior championship. Most of his experience comes from karting competitions, but Harper also raced in Irish Junior Rally Championship. Harper won three of six rounds of the competition, and hopes this experience will help him in the upcoming season.
“I feel my versatility and ability to adapt to different conditions and driving techniques will put me in a great position going into this year’s championship,” said Harper.
Harper will race alongside Stuart Middleton, a former scholarship racer and the current Winter Series champion, at Douglas Motorsport.
“I watched his performance at the Ginetta Junior Scholarship and there’s no denying that he has some raw talent,” said Wayne Douglas, Douglas Motorsport owner. “He will also benefit from having Stuart as a teammate so he has someone to work with both on and off track.”
The Ginetta Junior championship is the first step on the car racing ladder for many young drivers, as Harper knows.
“The Ginetta Junior Championship is a superb platform for me as a young driver to improve and showcase my ability in a fantastically exciting formula, against top competitiors in prper cars at proper tracks in front of thousands of knowledgeable race fans,” he said. “I can’t wait for Brands Hatch.”
