Alexander Rossi confirmed at Andretti Autosport

Andretti Autosport have signed Alexander Rossi for the 2016 Verizon IndyCar Season. This comes as no surprise after Andretti reportedly had been in talks with the driver in past days after completing a successful merger with Bryan Herta Autosport.

Rossi raced for the Manor Marussia team last year in Formula 1, making five starts while finishing second in the GP2 championship winning three races with Racing Engineering. Rossi would lose his Manor to Indonesian Rio Haryanto. This would effectively end Rossi’s chances of racing in Formula 1 for the time being. The American has stated that his eye is still on Formula 1.

“F1 still remains the focus, whatever I end up doing this year. But I need to be racing, I need to stay competitive.”

Alexander Rossi will be the second former Manor Marussia and Formula 1 driver to have a full time drive this season, along with Max Chilton who signed with Chip Ganassi Racing earlier this month.

Following his signing, Rossi and team owner Michael Andretti were very excited about the prospect of a successful season. “We’re really excited to have Alexander join the team. His credentials speak for his ability and we’re confident he’ll transition seamlessly into IndyCar racing. It’s neat to have the last three American F1 drivers in 25 years to be under one roof, I think it speaks to the level of talent we have.”
With the season starting March 13th at St. Petersburg, Rossi will be testing at Sebring and Barber Motorsports Park in March and has been ruled out of this week’s test at Phoenix International Raceway.
