JamSport add two more cars to the Clio Cup grid

Paul Donkin and James Grint will join JamSport’s line up for the Brands Hatch season finale next month. The team will run seven cars for the final two races, after their line up went up to five cars at the Silverstone race weekend.

Grint, a front-running name in the Super class of the British Rallycros Championship is hoping his rally cross experience will come in handy, and that the Clio Cup experience can give him the edge in the rallycross championship.

“In rallycross, you have to be a very good circuit racer on the asphalt as well as on the loose, so coming into circuit racing at a very high level of competition is definitely going to improve my racing,” said the Hertford-based driver. “Certainly having looked around the UK Clio Cup stands out as the best championship to dip into – I’m jumping in at the deep end but am also looking forward to it immensely.”

He will be joined by Donkin, who had had previous Clio Cup outings. Most recently, he raced at the Croft round of the 2015 season, where he finished twelfth and eleventh of the seventeen drivers racing. His best score so far was a ninth place in the 2014 Brands Hatch GP race.

“This great opportunity was to good to miss when it came up,” Donkin said. “I’ve been doing pretty well at club level motorsport the past few years but in that time this championship has gone from strength to strength so I’m not expecting an easy ride!”

The announcement that the team will field two additional cars has come as a surprise to some, with it having been expected that the team will focus their efforts on Ant Whorton-Eales, who leads the championship going into the weekend.
