Another Sprint Cup Qualifying cancellation puts Keselowski on pole at Dover

Qualifying for the 2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Citizen Soldier 400 at Dover International Speedway has been cancelled due to rain.

As per the NASCAR rulebook, Brad Keselowski will start on pole for Sunday’s race, with the field set by owner points. Martin Truex Jr will line-up alongside the #2 Penske in second place, with the rest of the top 16 of the grid all being made up by the drivers who made it into the Chase.

“We earned it because, obviously, we’ve been having a great season, maybe not with what we’ve done on track today, but with what we’ve done throughout the course of the year in scoring a lot of points and winning races,” Keselowski told NBC Sports after qualifying was called,

“But it’s certainly still something to be very proud of, to be this far into the season and be in the points lead. These are the perks you get when you’re in that position. We’ll take it, and of course, being up front gives us a very advantageous pit road selection for this race, which I think is very critical.”

Kyle Busch and Matt Kenseth will make up row two, with Joey Logano and last week’s winner Kevin Harvick just behind in 5th and 6th. Denny Hamlin will start 7th ahead of Hendrick Motorsport teammates Jimmie Johnson and Chase Elliot; with Carl Edwards completing the top 10.

Kyle Larson heads into the race with the last transfer spot into the next round of the Chase. He will start this important race in 12th behind Kurt Busch, with the four drivers he needs to beat to stay in the playoffs – Jamie McMurray, Austin Dillon, Tony Stewart and Chris Buescher – all in positions 13 through to 16.

Jeff Gordon is back behind the wheel as the substitute driver for Dale Earnhardt Jr this weekend. He will start 18th in the #88 Hendrick Chevrolet, with this being his penultimate start behind the wheel of the car. He will be back for Martinsville, with the remaining rounds being covered by Alex Bowman.
