Josh Cook may not be on the 2017 British Touring Car grid as he announces his split from Triple Eight Racing.
The 2015 Jack Sears trophy winner was expected to continue with the MG team for a second season but said they “couldn’t get the deal done”.
It is understood he is yet to arrange a drive for the season, which begins in less than two months’ time.
“It goes without saying that I was hoping to stay with the team again this year, but sadly we couldn’t get the deal done,” he told the Touring Car Times.
“I’m gutted to be leaving MG as a manufacturer as they are a great bunch and we had a good year together last year. Unfortunately, the team just wasn’t able to work with what we had.”
Cook finished 12th in the championship overall last season, with a best finish of third at Brads Hatch at the end of the season.
Triple Eight Racing are yet to announce the driver of either of the two MG6 GTs they’ll be running this season.
