Daniel Rowbottom is set to go it alone, challenging for the title with his own team, DRM, in his second year in the Renault UK Clio Cup.
Rowbottom made his debut in the championship with Team Ecomotive, competing in five rounds and taking seven top ten finishes. The Kidderminster based driver also took pole position in his first race at Brands Hatch at the start of the season.
This year, Rowbottom is aiming for a few more pole position and a little higher than the top ten.
“I’m not about making up the numbers – I’m there to go for the championship,” he said.
“I’m coming back to it a lot wiser and with a very committed and proactive sponsor in Cataclean, who see the benefits of being part of the UK Clio Cup grid – particularly given the exposure the championship receives alongside the British Touring Car Championship.”
Rowbottom joins Shayne Deegan in the “going it alone” club, with the Mini Miglia champion forming his own new team for the 2017 season.
“The budgets involved in the UK Clio Cup mean it is still possible for a smaller team like ours to put together a really effective campaign – I’m a bit of a renegade and like the challenge of getting ourselves into a position to take on the big boys.”
