Clio Cup Series runner up Brett Lidsey will make his Renault UK Clio Cup debut at Thruxton next month.
The 25-year-old will spent the majority of 2017 competing in the Benelux Clio Cup championship, which races in Belgium and the Netherlands. He will compete at two UK rounds, though, with Mike Ritchie Motorsport.
“I’d like to come in at Thruxton and do a James Dorlin, but we will have to wait and see,” he said. “I just want to enjoy myself instead of aiming for anything special.”
Dorlin, who pipped Lidsey to the Series title last season, is currently sixth in the championship and took a fourth place finish at Brands Hatch.
“This is a bit of a dream come true,” Lidsey said. “I’ve watched the UK Clio Cup on ITV4 for many years alongside the British Touring Car Championship and wanted to be part of those events.”
Lidsey will only be racing in two rounds – Thruxton and Brands Hatch – but hopes to make a full time move to the series next year.
