Stewart Lines will get behind the wheel of Maximum Motorsport’s Ford Focus at the British Touring Car Championship meeting at Snetterton.
The team owner stepped away from driving duties during the first half of the season, recovering from a cycling accident that broke his pelvis.
Josh Cook had raced for the team in the opening four rounds of the season, before moving back to MG Racing to replace Dan Lloyd. Dennis Strandberg made a one off appearance for the team at Croft, but Maximum advertised afterwards it was looking for a fulltime replacement.
After completing the Snetterton tyre test at the start of the month, Lines has decided he is well enough to return to racing.
“We tried to make it work with a younger driver, and I thought the summer break would have given us time to find another racer with some budget, but that hasn’t been the case,” he said.
“Rather than being left high and dry, the best option was for me to do the rest of the year to make sure we can fulfil our commitment to be on the grid.”
Lines will complete the remainder of the season as restrictions limit the number of driver changes a team can make.
It’s understood Maximum is aiming to run another young driver in 2018.
