Potential drivers may be put off the TCR UK Series if the commercial package doesn’t compare with that of the British Touring Car Championship.
At the moment, the BTCC and its support series receives live coverage from ITV4 every weekend, providing an attractive platform for drivers’ sponsors.
Supports of the TCR UK Series believe it could overtake the BTCC in the future, but some drivers are worried it won’t be as appealing to sponsors as being on the TOCA package.
“We need to know more about the commercial side of it,” Clio Cup racer Max Coates told Overtake Motorsport.
“Cost capped cars and the fact that you can race them anywhere in the world, I can see the viability for teams.
“The struggle for me is that I rely on sponsorship to race the car. The budget in TCR is going to be more than what it is in the Clio Cup.
“At the moment, I don’t know what the commercial package is to take to my sponsors to look at what we could do.”
The BRSCC has confirmed the TCR will run as a standalone series.
It is still in the process of finalising the provisional series and support package.
