2017 Driver Ratings School Report: Logan Sargeant

Year: First

Team: Carlin

TERM ONE

Grade: B-

Comment: Sargeant’s first half of his first season in the British Formula 4 showcased many solid performances, including four podiums, but he didn’t show signs of being a championship front runner, heading into the summer break fifth in the points standings and more than a hundred points adrift of his team-mate.

TERM TWO

Grade: B+

Comment: Things turned around in the second half of the season, where he claimed two victories and more podium finishes. The regular top five results meant a sharp climb up the order for the American, who could have snatched second in the championship from Piastri, had he not retired from the final race of the year.

Overall Grade: B

Best moment of the season: Sargeant’s first race win came from a dominant victory in the final race at Rockingham. The Carlin driver got a good start whilst those behind him scrabbled for position. He pulled away from the rest of the field to take an unchallenged win.

Worst moment of the season: Sargeant still had a shot at second in the championship when he started the final race of the season. The Carlin driver managed a strong start, only for the race to come under safety car conditions after the opening lap. He was battling running comfortably in third when, with five minutes remaining, he span and clipped the wall and was forced to retire from the race.
