The DTM has announced it’s 2018 schedule, which has been expanded to 10 meetings.
The championship will now be contested over 20 races with Brands Hatch returning for the first time in five years. Misano is also being welcomed, though the DTM has raced in Italy before, the last time being at Adria in 2010.
This means that the series will race on two new circuits. Misano of course is a completely new venue, but at Brands the cars will race around the full GP layout instead of the little Indy circuit that they raced on last time, which is heartwarming to hear.
Hockenheim will begin and end the season with Hungaroring, Norisring, Zandvoort, Nurburgring and Red Bull Ring retaining their places. Brands will host on 11-12 August with Misano following a fortnight later. Lausitz is also confirmed despite being sold to DEKRA and also concern about a clash with the Berlin Formula E race that takes place the same 19-20 May weekend. Moscow meanwhile has been dropped.
“Five events in Germany, five abroad – DTM is becoming somewhat more international without neglecting its German roots. With England and Italy two important markets of the premium-car manufacturers Audi, BMW and Mercedes make their comeback on the DTM calendar,” said Gerhard Berger, the chairman of series promoter ITR.
