Honda backed driver Nirei Fukuzumi will compete in both Formula 2 and Super Formula in a split programme for the youngster throughout 2018.
It was announced in November that Fukuzumi would compete in Formula 2 after enjoying two seasons with the latter gaining reasonable success in GP3 throughout 2017.
Nirei tested for ART’s Formula 2 squadron in the young driver test at the end of the 2017 season with him finishing roughly one second off the fastest time across all three days.
The 20 year old recorded two feature race wins in 2017 at Barcelona and Jerez finishing third overall in the standings behind teammates George Russell and Jack Aitken.
A seat in the prestigious Super Formula series in Japan became available when Pierre Gasly left the series and Team Mugen to join Toro Rosso of Formula 1, Nirei has been confirmed as Pierre’s replacement for the 2018 season.
They are two clashes on the Formula 2 and Super Formula provisional calendars it remains to be seen which events Honda hold priority but it is expected that Formula 2 will be the more important dates.
