Jack Aitken steps up to Formula 2 in 2018 with ART

Jack Aitken has confirmed via his Twitter page that he will remain part of the Renault Academy for a third year and join ART in their Formula 2 programme for 2018.

Jack who was part of the dream team trio of ART in GP3 last season took one feature race in Hungary but his consistency throughout the season saw him finish second in the championship only finishing behind his teammate and Mercedes junior George Russell.

Jack joined GP3 in 2016 with Arden International and after a strong season of success taking 7 podiums and a sprint race win joined ART for the 2017 season and is set to remain in the ART Family taking a step up to the official Formula 1 support series.

Jack’s teammate is yet to be confirmed but it is expected that either George Russell or Lando Norris will partner him for an all british lineup after Lando Norris’s deal with Prema Racing which brought Charles Leclerc to a dominant championship season fell through after F1 Driver Lance Stroll’s father vetoed the deal with him owning significant shares in the team.

  • Edit: Lando Norris has confirmed he will race with Carlin for the 2018 Formula 2 season, leaving George Russell as the most likely candidate for the other ART Seat.

The 2018 Formula 2 season is set to begin on the 6th of April at the Bahrain International Circuit.
