- NASCAR: Joey Logano dominated Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity race at Auto Club Speedway leading 139 laps of the 150 lap race. The day got started earlier though as they squeezed qualifying in before the race. Though controversy arose from the Monster Energy Cup Series qualifying the day before with 13 cars failing to get through inspection.
The Xfinity Series faced a tough task. If any car failed to make it through inspection quote “they must drop to the back then serve a pass through penalty at the start of the race.” All cars made it through and Christopher Bell in his number 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota would capture his 3rd pole in 5 races. And Logano would start on the outside pole.
Once the green flag fell and Logano got in clean air he was untouchable. On a late race caution Joey Logano would stay out while everyone else pitted. Logano made it work for a while then a caution would come out at lap125 and Logano was able to pit and get those 4 fresh GoodYear Eagles that are so crucial at a track like this. On the restart Logano would go from 16th to 1st in less then 5 laps.
In the end when Logano got the lead and never looked back. Penske goes back to back with the number 22 team and the first win for Penske at Auto Club Speedway in the Xfinity Series. Justin Allgaier would finish 2nd being the highest finishing Xfinity Series regular, with teammate Elliot Sadler finishing third.
The Xfinity Series is off this coming weekend and will return April 7th in the lonestar state at Texas Motorspeedway.
