Moto3 veteran Jorge Martin has signed a two-year deal with Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto2 team, replacing Miguel Oliviera for 2019.
Red Bull KTM Ajo announced that Martin will swap his Honda-powered Moto3 ride for a KTM machine in 2019 as he rejoins them after being identified as the ‘best option’ to replace the MotoGP bound Oliviera.
Martin describes the signing as ‘an important move for (his) career and (he’s) really happy to have found this agreement with KTM and Red Bull. It is such a competitive brand and (he) already cannot wait to start working this winter to attack next season.’ Once again showing the same determination and drive he and his friend, occasional training partner and ‘mentor’ Jorge Lorenzo share.

This isn’t the first time Martin has been involved with the Red Bull KTM outfit as he originally raced in the Red Bull Rookies Cup, claiming the championship in 2014 with his consistent points scoring and regular podium appearances. The consistent point scoring carried on after graduating to Moto3 in 2015 where he only improved from race to race. His formidable speed and qualifying ability made him a title threat two years in a row but due to a combination of his unlucky streak and other phenomenal riders such as Joan Mir and Marco Bezzecchi, he has been unable to claim that top spot in the Championship for long.
2018 marks three years in the Moto3 class for the young Spaniard with progression into Moto2 being the most natural option. Martin had been championship favourite at the start of the 2018 season before a spell of unfortunate and unavoidable incidents knocked him down the stands where he currently sits in fourth.
With another race in front of a home crowd coming up this weekend, the 20-year-old will certainly feel an added boost after today’s news.
