Eurotech Racing sell BTCC licence and will not compete in 2019

It has been announced that Eurotech Racing will not compete in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship in 2019. Owner and former driver Jeff Smith has sold the cars and TOCA BTCC licenses to another team which are yet to be announced but will soon be revealed.

The Eurotech team joined BTCC in 2006 with Mike Jordan, who became the oldest race winner in BTCC history at age 48, driving a Honda Integra. They ran the Integra for two years before not running in 2009. However, they made a comeback in 2010 with Andrew Jordan driving a Vauxhall Vectra and managed to take his and the teams first win at Croft.

Since 2012, Eurotech have stuck with the Honda Civic, with Jordan and Jeff Smith racing in 2012. Jordan took the teams first pole position at Thruxton and managed one win that season at Snetterton in race two.

Eurotech had a strong season in 2018, with Jack Goff finishing in a very respectable 8th place and Brett Smith finishing further down in 20th overall. This gave the team third in the independent team championship and sixth place in the overall championship. However, owner Jeff Smith has been “left with no choice” but to sell the team, as one of their major sponsors ICD, “is currently unable to continue with the level of support” Eurotech need to compete.

Owner Smith was a former driver for the team, alongside Martin Depper in 2015 and 2016, but a crash at Croft in 2017 forced him to give up the drive to his son Brett who joined Jack Goff. Jeff did stay involved with the team as he became the owner in 2014 and said in an interview he is “incredibly proud of our team and what we have achieved.”

This season they were able to add two wins to their tally, coming at Snetterton and Brands Hatch, with their first win coming at Silverstone in 2017.
