Sophie Says: “This season is set to be epic!”

Overtake Motorsport’s guest writer and young karting superstar, Sophie Gill, gives us her views ahead of the 2019 Formula 1 season, which kicks off this weekend!

“This time of year is one of the most exciting times for F1 fans around the world- the new F1 season. With almost every team switching up its seats, this season brings about new partnerships, new rivalries and the answers to the questions on everybody’s lips. Will Daniel Riccardo’s shock move to Renault pay off? Will Charles Leclerc live up to Raikkonen’s impressive legacy? Can Lewis Hamilton become six times world champion and challenge Michael Schumacher’s golden tally?
Testing showed us one thing; this season is shaping up to be the most exciting to date. With the midfield pack being very close together, it seems like there will be lots of exciting battles and brave overtakes this season. With Mercedes and Haas being the only teams not to change either of their drivers, we can expect to see a number of fresh faces this season and familiar ones, wearing different overalls than they have in previous years…
This season there are four rookies; Lando Norris, Alexander Albon, George Russel and Antonio Giovinazzi (although technically he’s not actually a rookie- in 2017 he stood in for injured Pascal Wehrlien at the Australian and Chinese Grand Prix in 2017).
There are also many rule changes; the DRS reduction system must be widened by 20mm, the rear wingspan has to be increased by 100m, the bargeboards have to be increased in length but shortened by height to improve visibility of sponsor logos, the brake ducts must be more than 5mm away from the wheel, the front-wing endplates must be restricted, the front-wing has to be increased by 200mm, to match the width of the car (2,000mm) and the front-wing elements have been simplified. Don’t worry- the cars are still as flawless and aesthetically pleasing as ever!
Other important changes include; a greater fuel allowance to allow drivers to  reach the car’s full potential, the minimum weight of the car has been increased from 733kg to 743kg and any driver under 80kg will need extra weight, Pirelli will bring three different types of dry tyre compounds and the F1 cars will have rear-facing lights, to improve driver visibility in the rain.
Overall, this season is set to be epic- I can’t wait to see the new drivers in action! See you in Australia!”
