Max Verstappen has won a thrilling Austrian Grand Prix, passing the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc with three laps left to go.

The Red Bull driver had a horrible start, falling back to eighth on the opening lap but he managed to get himself back up to fifth by lap nine.

He then stayed out later than the cars in front of him and once he pitted for hard tyres he charged through the field and overtook Leclerc late on into turn three.

The pair touched wheels and Leclerc went off the track and the incident is currently under investigation.

Leclerc was able to rejoin the track and crossed the line in second, 16s ahead of Valtteri Bottas in third.

Sebastian Vettel cross the line fourth after passing Lewis Hamilton late on.

Hamilton had to change his front wing in his pit stop which put him out of contention for a podium. The result means it is the first time this season a Mercedes has not won.

Lando Norris finished sixth after a fine afternoon for McLaren. The Briton had a great start and passed Hamilton for second before being overtaken again at the next corner.

He then settled in for a battle with Kimi Raikkonen before the pair were overtaken by the faster cars of Verstappen and Vettel.

Pierre Gasly finished just behind Norris in seventh in another difficult race for the Frenchman. He was followed home by Carlos Sainz Jr who had a great recovery drive in his McLaren.

Kimi Raikkonen eventually finished in ninth ahead of his teammate Antonio Giovinazzi who finally registered his first point of the season.
