Marta Garcia takes her first W Series pole position at the Norisring, Germany’s Monaco.
The whole grid, apart from Alice Powell, were covered by less than one second.
Alice Powell was plagued by a mechanical issue and was unable to record a fast lap. This brought out the red flags whilst they cleared the car.
Powell was late out on track because of the issues with the car. This could be an issue picked up from a crash in FP1 on Friday with Esmee Hawkey. The crash saw Powell taken to the medical centre with concerns over her wrist. Powell was cleared and back out in FP2, whilst Hawkey was unhurt but her car had too much damage to get back out on Friday.
There were eight minutes left on the clock at the restart with Jessica Hawkins having recorded the fastest, but it wasn’t long after the restart that Marta Garcia was at the top of the table. She again recorded a quicker time to take her first W Series pole position.
Championship leader, Jamie Chadwick, was able to improve her time amongst the two yellow flags that came out in the last eight minutes, to start the race on the front row.
Hawkins was able to improve her time but will be starting the race in sixth. Fabienne Wohlwend and Gosia Rdest will start on row two, whilst Beitske Visser will join Hawkins on row three in fifth.
The first of the yellow flags came out for Vivienne Keszthelyi who had spun after the restart. The second was for Shea Holbrook who picked up damage to her front suspension and pulled off with less than a minute to go.
The race will take place later today, 15:10 BST. Will Garcia be able to convert pole to become the third different race winner?
