Sebastian Vettel beat his Ferrari team-mate Charles Leclerc to win a hectic Singapore Grand Prix while Lewis Hamilton could only manage fourth.
It was Leclerc who led away from the start of the Grand Prix, but he ran at an extremely slow pace during the first stint in order to extend the life of his soft tyres.
But the plan didn’t work out as his team-mate Vettel pitted a lap earlier than the Monegasque driver and completed the undercut when Leclerc returned from the pits.
With traffic an issue, Mercedes decided to leave Hamilton out, but his gamble for an early safety car didn’t pay off and he fell behind the Ferrari pair and the Red Bull of Max Verstappen.
Leclerc was unhappy at the strategy call made by Ferrari and despite being given the all-clear to race Vettel, he was unable to make a move with three safety cars in the latter stages, and Vettel took his first victory in 22 races.
Verstappen crossed the line third ahead of Hamilton while Mercedes driver Valterri Bottas crossed the line in fourth.
Alex Albon achieved a career best result in sixth while Lando Norris had a strong drive to end up seventh, ahead of Pierre Gasly, who was the first of the runners to start on the hard tyre.
Nico Hulkenberg crossed the line ninth, while the Alfa Rome of Antonio Giovinazzi rounded out the top ten.
Romain Grosjean had an eventful afternoon but still managed to finish the race 11th. The Frenchman collided with the Williams of George Russell on lap 35, and that resulted in the first safety car deployment as Russell crashed into the wall as a result of the contact.
Carlos Sainz Jr was another driver to have an action packed evening. He picked up a puncture on the first lap, but managed to work his way back through the field to finish 12th, ahead of the Racing Point of Lance Stroll.
Daniel Ricciardo had started at the back of the week and pulled off some impressive overtakes as he fought his way through the pack, but he undid his hard work by colliding with Giovinazzi at Turn 7 on lap 34, and picked up a puncture, sending him back down the order.
Daniil Kvyat, Robert Kubica and Kevin Magnussen were last of the finishers.
Sergio Perez retired with a mechanical issue which caused the second safety car, while Kimi Raikkonen crashed out of the race on lap 50 at Turn 1 after contact with Daniil Kvyat.
