TOCA have released a new calendar for the 2020 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship.

The Championship will start at Donington on 1/2 August, which had been scheduled as the season opener on 28/29 March.

There will be nine events made up of 27 races with the series’ debut event at the Silverstone International Circuit dropping off the calendar.

All 27 races will be broadcast live by ITV.

The revised calendar is provisional as major events are currently on hold in the UK.

Should the Championship not be allowed to start in August, the calendar will be amended as required.

Race events at Brands Hatch (Indy), Oulton Park (Island) and Knockhill will also take place in August meaning there will be four race weekends in just five weeks.

Thruxton and Silverstone (National) will take place a week apart from each other in the middle of September.

The Croft meeting will take place on 10/11 October.

First BTCC round in November

The Snetterton round will take place at the end of October with Brands Hatch GP taking place on 14/15 November.

This will be the first time a championship event will take place in November.

Alan Gow, BTCC Chief Executive, said: “These are incredibly challenging times for the whole nation.

“Through it all, we have seen the importance of being both adaptable and pragmatic…and the BTCC is no different.

“So it’s entirely logical to draft plans and lock-in our provisional dates, with the ability to amend those if circumstances dictate.

“Obviously this calendar presents a hectic four months, with three separate back-to-back events and four events in the first five weeks alone.

“But our teams and drivers are fully up for the challenge – there’s such enormous energy, enthusiasm and passion for the BTCC that everyone will want to just roll up their sleeves and get the action underway when the time comes to go racing.

“However, the over-arching element will always be to ensure we have the correct procedures and protocols in place, in order to provide a safe environment.

“But before that time comes the most important thing we can all do is to please stay safe and also protect the health of others.
