Jonathan Pailler wins World RX Esports Sweden in the rain

Jonathan Pailler wins the penultimate round of the World RX Esports in the rain at Holjes, Sweden.

In a chaotic wet final Jonathan Pailler came through to take the win.

Having missed the first two rounds of the World RX Esports series Pailler joined the grid for Holjes. Just making it through to the final, Pailler was the only one to make it out of turn one without going off.

The conditions appeared to take the drivers by surprise with winner from last time out, Tom Blomqvist, Sivert Svardal, Timmy and Kevin Hansen all going off at turn one. Pailler and Blomqvist both opted to take their joker lap whilst Timmy Hansen led the race.

Timmy Hansen was the last to take his joker, going on lap four, after Svardal and Kevin Hansen went the lap previously. This allowed the French driver to take the lead whilst Timmy drops to third.

On the penultimate lap of the race there was contact in the battle for second place which caused problems for both of the Hansen brothers and Svardal. Blomqvist was able to capitalise on this and move up to P2 after problems earlier in the race saw him four seconds behind.

The stewards rescinded an in-game penalty for Blomqvist which meant that the GT driver picked up second place, with Timmy Hansen third giving him the championship lead. Kevin Hansen was fourth ahead of Svardal.

Missing out on the finals were Rokas Baciuska, Fail Race, Hayden Paddon, Fabien Pailler and Henrik Krogstad.

Once again in the esports specialist race it was the Dall’olmo brothers who dominated, both winning a semi-final. Killian Dall’olmo took the win ahead of Quentin Dall’olmo. Early race leader John Harris was third ahead of Daniel Johansson. Lukas Mateja picked up a puncture and was unable to complete the race.

With points leader Shane Van Gisbergen not in attendance, Timmy Hansen took the championship lead with 73 points. Blomqvist moves up to second with 67 ahead of Kevin Hansen on 61.

Killian Dall’olmo now leads the esport specialist standings on 37 points one point ahead of Quentin. Mateja maintains third on 25 points.

The final round of the World RX Esports will take place in South Africa on July 12. This is a week earlier than originally announced.
