The FIA Formula 2 championship has added Sochi to its revised 2020 calendar, with more dates set to be confirmed in due course.
The Sochi event will take place on September 25-27, as support to Formula 1’s Russian Grand Prix, and will be the 10th round of the season.
The F2 season had been originally due to have 12 rounds this year. But the COVID-19 pandemic has forced a complete reschedule of the calendar, with all 10 dates added so far being on the same bill as F1 events.
A further two rounds are expected to be added in due course, once the rest of the F1 calendar has been finalised.
“This announcement is a very good news,” said F2 CEO Bruno Michel.
“First of all, it means that we now have ten rounds confirmed for 2020. That’s very positive for everyone involved in the Championship.
“Moreover, we currently have three Russian drivers on the grid, with Robert Shwartzman currently leading in the Standings. For this reason as well, it’s great to be bringing F2 to Sochi.”
