Another kart star has joined the MSA Formula 2016 grid. Sixteen year old Max Fewtrell has signed for the reigning champions, Carlin, for their 2016 campaign.
Fewtrell has been racing karts since 2009, winning the Trofeo Andrea Margutti KFJ series in 2014 and coming third in the German KFJ championship in the same year. The Birmingham teenager also has experience racing in single-seaters, driving in the MRF Challenge Formula 2000 series last year.
His third place in Dubai against more experience drivers showed a talent he and Carlin hope to develop in the MSA Formula. Fewtrell is aiming to match the success his new team saw last year, with Carlin’s driver Lando Norris taking the inaugural MSA Formula Championship.
“I’m really excited to get going,” said Fewtrell. “Carlin is a really big name in motorsport, all the little details I learn with the team will definitely help me throughout my career. I couldn’t really ask for a better place to start my career in cars. The tests have gone really well, our pace is looking strong and I’ve been improving every time. The goal is definitely to win the championship this year, I can’t wait.”
“Testing has gone well,” said Harry Soden, from Infinity Sports Management. “He’s been quick, eager to learn and gets on well with the team, so we’re looking forward to seeing how he progresses. With a race-winning team like Carlin supporting him, there should be no reason why Max can’t run at the front.”
Though the year will be a learning curve, with 2016 being the teenager’s first season in car racing, Carlin are sure Fewtrell will be able to be competitive from the outset.
