Tom Butler is sticking with 20Ten Racing for his first full Renault Clio Cup Season.
The 21-year-old took part in the final two events of the 2015 season with 20Ten racing, impressing with four points finishes. Now Butler plans to build up experience in motor racing with the team that helped him get those points.
Once again, Butler will be sponsored by his Storm design clothing company.
“For pretty much every driver, the UK Clio Cup is a two or three year programme – it is the category right beneath British Touring Cars so the grid is massively competitive and it’d be foolish to think otherwise,” he said.
“I was pleased with the way I took to it towards the end of last season with 20Ten and to come away from the final round at Brands Hatch with a seventh place result was better than I’d anticipated. I like the way 20 Ten operates and being based close to one another is of course a bonus.”
“I see this as the start of a longer-term campaign with them and the target this year is regular top ten finishes and to be pushing for top fives by the end of the season.”
Butler will partner Sam Watkins, who has also re-signed for the team after racing in the final two rounds of the championship.
“I’m very glad we’ve kept Tom on board along with Sam for 2016,” said Simon Hunt, team manager. “They work well with everyone in our team when they came in towards the end of last season. Continuity is always important in motor sport and bringing on two young chargers together is always an exciting prospect – we’ve done it before and I see no reason why we can’t do it with Tom and Sam.”
