Lloyd to miss Snetterton due to funding problems

Daniel Lloyd has said he’s “absolutely gutted” after announcing he won’t be competing in the Snetterton round of the 2016 British Touring Car Championship. The Eurotech driver has had to pull out of the season after a “large backer” failed to come through.

Lloyd’s announcement comes only a day after Chris Smiley announced his departure due to funding problems.

“After having two front row qualifying positions and being 2nd quickest at the Snetterton test and I’m gutted I can’t get back in the car this weekend,” Lloyd said on social media.

Having only competed in three rounds this seasons, Lloyd is seventeenth in the championship, with a highest finish of sixth in the first race at Oulton Park.

“I want to say a huge thank you to Jeff Smith and the rest of the Eurotech team for providing me with a car capable of two front row qualifying positions after zero testing,” Lloyd said. “It’s been my first attempt in 5 years at a front wheel drive car so I’m proud to have shown pace.”

Lloyd hopes to return to the championship in the future. It’s not currently known if that means later this season, or further ahead.
