It’s been a difficult weekend for Douglas Motorsport’s Enzo Fittipaldi. The teenager – who turned fifteen two weeks ago – was left frustrated by contact that meant a seventh in qualifying ended with two finishes in the bottom half of the standings.
Fittipaldi is currently testing in Formula 4, too young at the beginning of the season to enter the single seater championship. After a frustrating second race at Snetterton, that saw him finish eighteenth, Fittipaldi told us he was focusing on doing more tests in the F4 cars.
Race one “wasn’t so good”, Fittipaldi said. The Douglas Motorsport driver was hit two laps before the end of the race, spinning and rejoining in sixteenth. He was able to make up one position before the end of the race, but it still only put them fifteenth for race two on Sunday.
“I think, hopefully, we’re looking for a top ten finish,” he told us before racing began on Sunday. “But we know we have the pace to be running with the top five.”
Fittiapldi wasn’t even able to achieve the top ten aim, with contact at the back of the pack resulting in a P18 finish and a lot of damage to the front of our car.
Fittipaldi and team mate Middleton both had disappointing weekends
A devastated looking Fittipaldi spoke to us after the race.
“At the back of the pack it’s just crashing all the time,” he said.
When asked about going to Formula 4 before the end of the season, Fittipaldi said:
“We’re already thinking about maybe leaving the Ginetta championship because it’s a lot of contact and I think we’re going to start thinking about doing more F4 tests and go to Formula 4 next year.”
The Brazilian added that he’s unsure as to whether he’s finishing the 2016 Ginetta Junior championship.
