Qualifying Conversations – Knockhill

Jason Plato took pole for his 500th race this afternoon in a mixed up qualifying that saw the championship leader – Rob Collard – start P18.

We caught up with some of the drivers after qualifying.

Sam Tordoff: P3

“No it was good. I think P3 was the best we could have hoped for with 66kg on board so I think we can be really happy with that. We’re in a really good position for tomorrow to strike whilst the iron’s hot and bring the advantage that is this track. I think this track suits rear wheel drive so we need to take the points whilst we can and hopefully we’re in a good position to do that.”

Gordon Shedden: P11

“[It was] fine. Good. Could have been worse. It just could have been a lot better. But we’re fine. We’ll go racing tomorrow.”

Aiden Moffat: P12

“[It was] not great to be honest. In twelfth position which was a little disappointing. We should have been up a lot further with the pace in the car but… we should have been a lot further up so it’s kind of frustrating but we’re better at races than qualifiers so there’s definitely room to move forward.”

“I think tomorrow we’ll really push to try and get in the top ten in race one and hopefully get a reversal in race three like last year, and see how things go.”

Jake Hill: P19

“It was bad. Let’s not make excuses. It was bad. I just didn’t have any rear grip so the car was really struggling through the first corner and through the chicane. We know what we’re going to do for tomorrow and hopefully that will solve it.”

“We’ll see [how we can do tomorrow]. I always race better than I qualify, normally. And also my best friend, Rob Collard – he is one of my best friends, I don’t mean that sarcastically – is starting just in front of me and we always seem to come through together. So hopefully, I can stay with Rob and try and get into the top ten.”

Stewart Lines: P29

“I went three quarters of a second faster than I did last year and I did a fifty two something. It was so close. I was just trying my hardest. Another three tenths and I’d have been about twenty third or something, but it was just one of those… I don’t seem to be able to do qualifying. The race pace is really good.

“I’m enjoying the track though. The track’s great. I feel I’m going to race a lot better than I qualified. To be fair, I thought I drove well in well in qualifying but everyone’s so good. Another hundredth and I’d have been another place up. Michael Caine was a tenth up. It’s people like that that… he’s not a rubbish in the car. You’ve just got to put up with the fact that you’re up against him.

“Hopefully in the race, they’ll all crash and I’ll come through and take a trophy.”
