Fittipaldi “50-50” on going to F4 before the end of the season

It had been another disappointing weekend for Enzo Fittipaldi. After a rookie podium in race one, a grid penalty for an incident at Snetterton put him towards the back of the grid where he became involved in a collision with Harry King that ruined both drivers’ races.

So is the Brazilian looking to go elsewhere sooner?

Fittipaldi’s intentions of using the year in Ginetta’s as a “learning” year had been clear since before the season started, and after a frustrating weekend at Snetterton, Fittipaldi seemed keen to get into a single seater.

Now, he says it’s “fifty-fifty” as to whether he’ll be in a Formula 4 car come Rockingham.

“It’s looking like I’m going to leave the series,” Fittipaldi said after the third race at Knockhill. “We’ll be going to F4.”

When asked if he was going to finish the season with Douglas Motorsport in Ginetta Junior, as seemed to be the intention following Snetterton, Fittipaldi said he didn’t know yet.

“It’s 50-50 at Rockingham so we don’t know,” he said. “I’ll be doing some F4 testing throughout the year and winter, and I’m looking forward for next year.”

Fittipaldi intends to race for either Fortec (whom his brother Pietro drives for in Formula 3.5) or Arden, and said he would be testing with both in the coming months.

Overtake Motorsport have heard rumours Tom Gamble may be heading to Douglas to fill the vacant seat should Fittipaldi leaves, but these haven’t been confirmed.
