Carlin’s Devlin DeFrancesco left Rockingham frustrated after a poor round saw him slip from third to fifth in the championship.
The Canadian stressed how hard the team is working, but feels there are some major issues that need to be resolved before the championship heads to Silverstone next month.
“There are a lot of things that need to be looked into internally,” DeFrancesco said. “Could I have done a few things differently? Yes. But I think there’s a lot more going on that needs to be looked into internally that are causing some major issues.”
He added: “There is an issue that is out of the team’s control that needs to be resolved for Silverstone. All credit to my engineer Steve who has done a fantastic job with our package. We just have to get the maximum and continue fighting.”
It was another difficult race for the Carlin driver. Despite taking two points finishes, he lost a lot of ground to team mate Max Fewtrell, who leads the championship.
“Rae one, I made a mistake at the start, but we were in the correct position for a reverse grid pole and Goddard just drove into the back of me and destroyed the rear suspension.
“Race two, to start from last and to come through to P10 after quite a horrific first lap was quite a good job. But race three, I think there are quite a few issues that need to be solved internally.”
DeFrancesco leaves Rockingham sixty five points behind Fewtrell. With only two rounds left and DeFrancesco without a win since Croft, it’s going to be hard work to get back up to the sharp end of the championship.
“[The championship] is the last thing on my mind right now to be really honest after this weekend,” DeFrancesco said. “With the current situation, it makes things difficult. We’ll discuss that internally. We’ll discuss that with British F4 and see what they make of it.”
