“It could have been better” – Caroline following superb wet race

Fortec’s Jamie Caroline once again proved to be a wet race super star with a superb race at Rockingham.

Whilst most of the field were hoping the rain would hold off until after the first race of the weekend, Caroline was hoping for something that might mix things up, after qualifying eighteenth.

Luckily for the Fortec racer, the heavens did open.

“I’ve always preferred the wet,” Caroline said. “I [overtook] six or seven off the line. Twelve overall in the first lap. Not bad.”

Caroline managed to move up from eighteenth to fourth throughout the race, but still wasn’t completely happy with his performance.

“It could have been better,” he said. “I was on for third, locked up into two and went straight on so I had to loop round to come back down. [I] lost quite a few times to Fewtrell and lost a place as well so, could have been better but obviously starting eighteenth to fourth: not too bad. Especially around here.”

The dry races on Sunday didn’t go quite as well for the Pirtek sponsored driver.

“I struggle in the dry a little bit. [We’re] a few tenths off.”

Despite starting fifth for the second race of the weekend, Caroline could only manage another fourth place finish, and starting from the back of the grid in race three made another top finish difficult. He finished fourteenth.

The Fortec driver is now tenth in the championship. Caroline may only be two points behind Martins ahead of him, but it’s then another twenty four points to the next nearest driver.

He’s the last driver in the championship mathematically in with a chance at winning the championship, but it’s unlikely he’ll take the crown. Still, Caroline is yet to get his first Formula 4 win, so there are still some aims yet to be met this season.
