Westbourne Motorsport have followed in the steps of Clio Cup competition Ciceley Motorsport and others in signing up to the Renault UK Clio Cup Junior Championship.
The team is testing four teenagers at the end of the month in the junior spec cars and are hoping for at least three signings for the 2017 season.
The hopefuls will be coached by Clio Cup driver James Colburn and Ed Pead.
“We’re testing four hopefuls at Blyton and are confident that will translate into at least three signings,” team principal Richard Colburn said.
Colburn believes a big draw for junior drivers to the Westbourne team will be the coaching on offer to the teenagers. His son and Clio Cup driver James Colburn and Ed Pead will be available at the test day for coaching.
“Having those two on board is a big plus point for any driver joining our Junior line-up,” said Colburn senior. “We are very confident that we will not only be able to look after the cars to a very high standard, but also the drivers as well.”
Renault Sport’s UK Motorsport Championship Manager, Will Fewkes, sees Westbounre’s commitment to the new championship of a sign the Clio Cup Junior championship will be a success.
He said: “The number of top UK Clio Cup teams already building up entries in the Junior championship into their 2017 plans continue to grow before we have even got to the sampler day, when we are sure many of the young drivers attending will be blown away by the performance of the UK Clio Cup junior car.”
