Reigning Michelin Clio Series champion, James Dorlin, will take the step up this season as he joins the Renault UK Clio Cup
The 17-year-old will continue with Westbourne Motorsport, who helped him to the club-level title last season. He’s the second driver the team has confirmed for their 2017 campaign.
Dorlin is aiming for the top ten in the first season, which he’s described as a learning year. He has already begun testing with the new machinery, setting “good” times in his new car.
“It’s quite a step up – the grid is for the very latest specification Clio Cup race car produced by Renault Sport and the events are on a totally different scale to what I’m used to,” he said.
The teenager is confident Westbourne will be able to help him repeat his club-level feat in the national series.
He will join Myles Collins at the team.
“We’re delighted to be working with James again in 2017,” said team principal Richard Colburn. “He proved to us what a very exciting young talent he is in 2016 and I have no doubt he will quickly be towards the sharp end of the grid. We have some decent pre-season testing planned so we can hit the ground running at the first two races at Brands Hatch in early April – these can always prove very important to how the rest of your season unfolds.”
