Brett Smith to replace injured Jeff Smith

Jeff Smith’s son Brett will take the step up to the British Touring Car Championship, replacing his father at Eurotech for the remainder of the season.

Smith Snr suffered a number of injuries in a multi-car crash earlier this month, including several broken ribs and a dislocated shoulder. He is now out on the road to recovery and out of hospital, but has been ruled out of the remainder of the season.

“I am naturally extremely disappointed for my season to be ended in this way,” he said. “Having assessed a number of driver options the team are in agreement that Brett gives us the best opportunity to provide a strong second half to the season.”

Brett Smith, who currently leads the MINI Challenge Championship, will begin testing the team’s Honda Civic Type R at Snetterton in the official group test at Snetterton next week, before his first race in the championship at the end of July.
