Piastri: The title chase is definitely getting closer

Arden’s Oscar Piastri is certain he can keep the pressure on British Formula 4 championship leader Jamie Caroline with a strong performance at Rockingham.

Piastri is currently 45.5 points behind Caroline in the standings, with five wins to Caroline’s 10 so far this season, but has cut the gap by more than 20 points in just two rounds.

The 16-year-old expects to cut that gap further at Rockingham next weekend.

“Caroline said that [Knockhill] was one of his best tracks,” Piastri told Overtake Motorsport.

“I think Rockingham is certainly going to be one of my strong ones. I’ve been fast there in testing so bring on the next round.”

Piastri’s Knockhill performance also gave him a confidence boost. He scored one more point than Caroline at the Scottish track, despite suffering a technical problem in race two.

“I got as many points as I could,” he said. “The title chase is definitely getting closer.”

With just three rounds to go, there are 75 points on offer before the end of the season. Piastri and Carlin’s Logan Sargeant are the only drivers with a mathematical chance at catching Caroline.
