Jean-Eric Vergne takes pole position for the Berlin E-Prix.

ABB FIA Formula E returns for Round Eight of the 2019/2020 season with Vergne taking pole position for the race on the second track configuration for the end of the season.

Vergne was fastest after the group stages coming out of group two. Stoffel Vandoorne put the initial fastest lap time down, going quickest in the first group. Vandoorne would go through to Super Pole with the second fastest time behind Vergne.

Joining Vergne and Vandoorne in Super Pole were Alex Lynn from group four, Robin Frijns and Jerome D’Ambrosio out of group three and Maximillian Guenther from the second group.

As the final qualifier BMW driver, Guenther, was the first to record a time in Super Pole a benchmark that only Vergne, in the DS Techeetah, would top, by half a second.

Vandoorne looked to be able to challenge but a lock up and grazing the wall on his flying lap would see the Mercedes driver start the race fourth.

Starting either side of Vandoorne are the two Mahindra drivers, D’Ambrosio in third and Lynn in fifth. Not able to complete the cleanest lap means that Frijns will start the race in sixth.

Antonio Felix Da Costa, pole sitter and race winner from the last two events, will start the race in ninth. Starting ahead of the championship leader will be Andre Lotterer and Nyck De Vries.

Oliver Rowland will start 10th in the Nissan ahead of Lucas Di Grassi who sits second in the championship standings.

The race takes place later today ahead of round nine tomorrow, Sunday 9th August.
