Projekt E: 4 Cars for Riga as Block is out

Round 2 takes place in Latvia as Citroen joins the grid. Championship leader Ken Block absent from entry list.

Only 1 additional car will take part at the second ever round of Projekt E. 2 manufacturers will be on the grid as Cyril Raymond will give Citroen its electric race debut. Citroen’s sister brand DS has been heavily involved with Formula E since 2015 but Citroen itself has been uninvolved. Local driver Janis Baumanis returns to the track after losing his World Championship drive. He will drive for the newest World Rallycross team, Ferratum Team in a Ford Fiesta. His best result at his home circuit came back in 2017 when he finished 5th in the World Championship final.

Svein Bjarte Holten makes his Projekt E debut driving a Ford for his own team. The Norwegian made his first rallycross outing in 14 years at the opening round of the Norwegian Rallycross Championship 2 weeks ago. He finished 3rd in his electric car against 3 conventionally powered Supercars. Natalie Barratt is the only returning driver this weekend. Assuming she competes in qualifying and the final she is guaranteed to lead the championship by at least 11 points. Qualifying begins on Saturday and finishes on Sunday ahead of the 6 lap final. As was the case in Sweden, no semi-finals will take place due to lack of numbers.

The RX2 championship has officially ended ahead of its change to a fully electric championship. The new series, eRX2 will race alongside the World Championship with likely 5 events taking place. Henrik Krogstad won the RX2 shootout in Denmark and will compete at one round of the new series for free.
