British Formula 3 driver Jake Hughes will make his debut in F2 this weekend in Sochi as he replaces Giuliano Alesi.
Jake Hughes has officially joined Formula 2 with HWA Racelab. The British driver who finished 7th in the Formula 3 2020 Championship will continue his partnership with the HWA team in Formula 2. Hughes will take the seat of French driver Giuliano Alesi who makes a mid season move to MP Motorsport, replacing Nobuharu Matsushita.
Despite the Formula 3 season not going the way Hughes had hoped, the 26 year old still managed to clinch two victories and performed well throughout the season. In statements, both Hughes and Alesi expressed their delight at their respective moves.
Also expressing his delight was HWA team Principal Thomas Strick. Strick explained, “This perfectly matches our philosophy of building up talented youngsters step by step and leading them to the top level of motorsport.”
Hughes is the first Formula 3 driver (from the class of 2020) to announce his progression to Formula 2.
