In a big blow for the all-electric championship, Audi have announced their exit from Formula E in order to pursue victory in the WEC.
As Formula E testing comes to an end in Valencia, big news emerged yesterday as Audi revealed they would be leaving the all-electric championship at the end of the 2021 season.
The German manufacturer joined the championship at the very start, providing support for the Abt team during the first three seasons. In 2017, Audi seized total control of the team which has seen significant success over the past few seasons.
Ahead of the new season, the German team currently has 12 victories as well as winning the 2017/18 constructors championship. Their exit from Formula E is a significant move, however the team will not be exiting the championship entirely. Audi will continue to operate within the sport as a manufacturer of powertrains as well as upholding its commitments to customer team, Envision Virgin Racing.
As a result of this move, Audi will instead be making a return to endurance racing as part of their new LMDh project.
