Nikita Mazepin has been given two five-second penalties following Saturday’s Formula 2 feature race in Bahrain, costing the Hitech driver a podium finish.

The penalties, both for blocking, mean Mazepin is relegated from third to ninth place in the results of the race, and drops from fourth to fifth in the championship, behind Prema’s Robert Shwartzman.

In the latter stages of the race, Mazepin aggressively defended his position against both Carlin’s Yuki Tsunoda and MP Motorsport’s Felipe Drugovich.

Tsunoda was forced off the track by the pitlane exit while passing Mazepin for the lead, while Drugovich was also forced off track contesting third place.

The stewards penalised Mazepin for both incidents and handed him points on his license, taking him to 11 overall – one short of a race ban.

Drugovich is promoted to third as a result, with Dan Ticktum moving up to 8th, the DAMS driver also taking over reverse-grid pole for Sunday’s sprint race.

Callum Ilott and Mick Schumacher are promoted to fifth and sixth, with Schumacher still leading the championship by 14 points heading into Sunday’s finale.
