Max Verstappen leads the final practice session of 2020 by half a second from Alex Albon.
It was time for the final practice session of the weekend, and indeed, the year. The light went green, but nobody was keen on going out just yet. In fact, the first 18 minutes had an empty track. Latifi being the first out with 42 minutes to go.
Ocon seemed to have some temporary exhaust problem as his car briefly smoked away. Most drivers were doing soft tyre runs, with some on the mediums. Halfway through the session, it was Verstappen fastest from Albon and Hamilton, with those three split by 0.3 seconds.
With the decreasing temperatures, lap times improved at the end. Ricciardo and Ocon made it a Renault 2-3, but Albon pipped them right at the end. In the end, though, it was Verstappen on top. Albon, despite understeer problems, put his car second, with Renault third and fourth. It wasn’t a strong showing from Mercedes, with Hamilton sixth and Bottas down in ninth.
That was it for the final hour of practice in 2020, and now the teams ready themselves for Qualifying later on.
