Ollie O’Donovan and Team RX Racing have announced they are creating a brand new rallycross car. The Proton Iriz has never been used before in rallycross and is currently under construction for competition next year.
It has been announced a brand new car will replace their older vehicles. The Proton Iriz is being built using a new concept to rallycross. The body build phase is currently on going throughout the winter. Despite having never been used in rallycross before it is expected to be competitive. Before today there had been speculation that Ollie O’Donovan would be leaving the Rallycross paddock. Team RX Racing are selling their Ford Focus and Ford Fiesta they have used in the last few years.
O’Donovan will continue his relationship with Tony Bardy Motorsport to develop and run the car. Proton rally specialists Mellors Elliot Motorsport will provide additional support to the team. The Proton Iriz is an R5 homologated rally car and has won multiple rallies in the 3 years since launch.

O’Donovan has primarily raced in the British Rallycross Championship with selected World and European events in the past couple of years. When asked about where the new car will be raced the Irish driver said the new car will be put through its paces both in Britain and overseas.
“We’re gonna come and dabble in the British and European championships.”

O’Donovan previously ran full campaigns in the European Rallycross Championship from 2015 to 2017 with a podium finish in 2017 his best result. Ollie O’Donovan has piloted his Ford Fiesta since 2015. With rally and rallycross technology evolving a lot in just 5 years he said it was time to look where to go next.
