Liam Lawson has been disqualified from Saturday’s FIA Formula 2 sprint race, over three hours after taking victory
Following an investigation, the stewards declared that the Hitech driver had used an illegal throttle map at the start of the race. Carlin’s Dan Ticktum inherits his second F2 win as a result, having finished second on the road. Prema’s Oscar Piastri is promoted to second, with Lawson’s team-mate Juri Vips taking his first series podium in third.
Lawson lost the lead at the start to Piastri, but retook the place with a spectacular at overtake at La Rascasse and remained in front until the chequered flag.
“The stewards examined the data evidence,” read an FIA statement. “They summoned and heard the driver and team representative and the FIA technical delegate. A defined throttle pedal progressivity map programmed in position 1 of the steering wheel throttle map rotary knob must be used during all formation lap starts and race starts until the car speed reaches 50 km/h.
“Having considered the matter extensively, the stewards determined that Car 07 was therefore in breach of the technical regulations and is therefore disqualified from the results of race two.”
