Kevin Hansen took the win of the FIA World Rallycross Championship season opener at the World RX of Catalunya.

After a delayed start to the World Rallycross championship due to the coronavirus pandemic Kevin Hansen came out fighting to take the first victory of the year.

Timmy Hansen started on pole for the final of the World RX of Catalunya with his brother Kevin alongside. The pair got in front of defending champion Johan Kristoffersson at the first corner.

Kristoffersson, driving the Audi of KYB EKS JC in 2021, was the first to take his joker lap, and was able to get out in front of Kevin Abbring who had yet to take the extended lap. Timmy Hansen relinquished the lead a lap later to cover Kristoffersson, coming out ahead.

On lap four Kevin Hansen, from the lead of the race, took his joker lap. He came out behind brother Timmy and Kristoffersson, but the momentum took him round the outside of both and back into the lead of the race.

Kevin Hansen held on to take the first victory of the year ahead of Timmy Hansen. Kristoffersson tried to make a move up the inside of Timmy Hansen in the closing stages, but was unable to make it stick, having to settle for third.

Krisztian Szabo in the GRX came fourth ahead of Rene Munnich and Abbring.

Missing out on places in the final from semi-final one was Tamas Karai, Juha Rytkonen and Timo Scheider. From the second it was Oliver Bennett, Enzo Ide and Niclas Gronholm.

After the opening round of the championship Kevin Hansen leads the points by two from Timmy, with Kristoffersson joint third with Szabo nine points behind.

Round two of the championship takes place on 21/22 August at Holjes, Sweden.
