Johan Kristoffersson wins the World RX of Spa-Francorchamps and closes the gap to Timmy Hansen in the championship fight.
Round six of the FIA World Rallycross Championship took place at the famous Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Belgium. Kristoffersson took his second consecutive win of the season on the first time competing at the circuit.
A fast launch from the defending champion saw him straight into the lead of the race, with Kevin Hansen all over the back of him. Kristoffesson and Kevin Hansen pulled away from the field and took first and second.
There was a battle behind in which Krisztian Szabo came through to take his first World RX podium, despite featuring in all of the seasons finals. Timmy Hansen finished fourth ahead of Enzo Ide and Anton Marklund.
Kevin Abbring had been the top qualifier going into the semi-finals but was turned round on the opening lap by Timmy Hansen which caused a non-finish and a penalty for Timmy Hansen. Also missing out from semi-final one was Herve Knapick and Timo Scheider.
Niclas Gronholm launched off the line in the second semi-final but was pushed wide at turn one and unable to recover. Juha Rytkonen and Oliver O’Donovan also missed out on a place in the final.
With three rounds to go Timmy Hansen holds onto the championship lead by 12 points from Kristoffersson and Kevin Hansen a further three points behind.
Round seven takes place on 16-17 October at Montalegre.
