David Beckmann will make a Formula 2 return this weekend at Imola, standing in for Cem Bolukbasi at Charouz.

Bolukbasi suffered a broken rib in a testing crash at Barcelona earlier last week, which resulted in him flying home after the first of the three days of running.

It’s been a tough start to life in F2 for for the Turkish driver, having been ruled out of the previous round in Jeddah with concussion following a heavy practice shunt at the beginning of the weekend. Prior to that, he scored a pair of 14th place finishes at the opening round in Bahrain.

Beckmann will be reunited with Charouz, who he competed with in the first half of the 2021 season, finishing third in the opening sprint race in Bahrain. He stood on the podium again in Baku by finishing runner-up in the second sprint race. He then switched to Campos for rounds five and six, scoring a best result of fifth.

The 21-year-old German moved to Formula E for 2022 as reserve and development driver for Andretti Autosport. He took part in the final day of Barcelona testing with Charouz in preparation for this weekend.

“First of all I’m really happy to be back in the car for Imola, especially because I can do it once again with Charouz,” said Beckmann.

“I got a first taste at Barcelona last week and it felt really good straight away. I surely have some work in front of me but I already made a lot of progress and it’s already looking good. I think we’ll have a good opportunity as it’s a relatively new track for everyone and the chances of scoring a good result could be high if we can play our cards well.

“On my side, I’ll do my best until Cem is gonna be ready to get back in the car.”
