Alpine become the fifth team to reveal their car for the upcoming F1 season, showing it off alongside their new Hypercar that will be used in this year’s World Endurance Championship.
The continuing trend of cars having more and more exposed carbon fibre continues here, albeit arguably taken to a new extreme as the A524 is predominantly black with blue and pink accents.
Alpine have continued their tradition of celebrating their partnership with BWT through using a special pink livery during the opening rounds of the season, seeing most of the blue sections be switched into a hot pink.
Alpine finished comfortably in 6th place last season, possessing a 92 point gap ahead of Williams in 7th, though 160 points behind Aston Martin in 5th, scoring two podiums in Monaco and The Netherlands.
The drivers are excited about getting onto the track with their new car, with Esteban Ocon stating that “as a driver, it’s a goosebumps moment when you jump in a new car for the first time and release the pit limiter”, whilst Pierre Gasly noted that “It is nice to have continuity and building on the foundations that we created last year. I’m feeling confident with the team I have around me. We have all been developing over the last year”.
Technical director Matt Harman is confident about the technical direction the team has taken, explaining that the approach when designing the car “has been aggressive but deliberate in the fact we are creating a wider scope to add performance to the car. We have really focused on learning and reacting to what we have learnt rather than on results.
“The project has been bold where we have focused on realising concepts, which we aim to add to the car. We’ve built ourselves a strong platform to add performance when we can and we have set ourselves targets to deliver those. We have pushed some elements to the limit and, in some cases, beyond that.”
The car will take to the track for the first time next week in Qatar for what the team refers to as a ‘prologue’ ahead of pre-season testing later this month.
