ART Grand Prix’s Zak O’Sullivan took his second Formula 2 victory in a heavily delayed and red-flagged sprint race at Spa-Francorchamps

Rain resulted in the contest being postponed and put back until the end of the day, with conditions not signifcantly better when it eventually got underway. O’Sullivan converted reversed-grid pole into the lead into La Source, and took advantage of having no spray to deal with to pull over two seconds clear.

The safety car was deployed on the third lap when Campos Racing’s Pepe Marti ground to a halt on track, and deteriorating weather then led to the red flags being shown and the race not being not restarted.

O’Sullivan was therefore declared the winner ahead of MP Motorsport’s Dennis Hauger and Trident’s Richard Verschoor. Rodin Motorsport’s Zane Maloney tried to challenge Verschoor shortly before the race was stopped and had to settle for fourth ahead of DAMS’ Jak Crawford, the pair having passed MP’s Franco Colapinto on the opening lap, with only the top five finishers awarded points due to the shortened distance.

Colapinto also lost further places to Prema duo Andrea Kimi Antonelli and Ollie Bearman and finished eighth, Antonelli having pulled off a thrilling overtake into Eau Rouge to snatch sixth and Bearman climbing from 14th to seventh.

Championship leader Isack Hadjar was ninth for Campos, while his main title rivals Paul Aron and Gabriel Bortoleto finished 18th and 10th respectively, though Aron will start from pole in Sunday’s feature race.

ART’s Victor Martins, who suffered an issue in qualifying climbed from the back of the grid to 12th.
