Sunday’s Formula 2 feature race has been cancelled due to persistent heavy rain at the Albert Park circuit
Wet weather had already led to the preceding races in FIA Formula 3 and Supercars being red-flagged, and conditions had further detoriated by the time the F2 cars took to the circuit.
The field commenced a formation lap behind the safety car, but officials quickly deemed that the circuit was too wet and brought out the red flags. All cars returned to the pitlane, where they remained for almost an hour.
Drivers then headed out again behind the safety car to try for a second time to get the race underway but, after MP Motorsport’s Oliver Goethe spun at slow speed, it was clear conditions had not significantly improved and the race was abandoned shortly after the red flags had been shown for a second time.
ART Grand Prix’s Victor Martins had been due to start from pole. With no points awarded for the feature race, AIX Racing’s Joshua Duerksen continues to lead the standings following his victory in Saturday’s sprint race. The next F2 round takes place in four weeks time in Bahrain.
